St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Hosts Blessing of the Animals

Feast of St. Francis Event will Benefit St. Francis Wildlife Rescue Preserve

For Immediate Release: On Sunday, October 6th at 10:00 am, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis in their open-air Memorial Garden. The highlight of the service will be a Blessing of the Animals by the Rev. Canon Tanya Scheff. The focus is man’s special call to care for the earth and its creatures. Veterinary Surgeon and St. Paul’s member Dr. Jennifer Farmer says, “The service brings out animal lovers of all kinds, and in previous years, there have been dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, exotic birds, and more. The fellowship is heart-warming to behold.” A special commemorative certificate will be provided to the owners for each pet that receives a blessing.

For the second year in a row, a supply drive to benefit Gadsden’s wildlife rescue group, The St. Francis Wildlife Association, will be held as well. Wildlife Rehab Manager Hannah Altonji will be on hand with a special rescue animal from the facility to answer questions about their programs and screen volunteers. St. Francis Board Member, Ms. Kelly Kraft, points out that “St. Francis provides so many vital services that support Gadsden County’s rural/agricultural wildlife heritage, and we could not do it without the generous community support from people and places like St. Paul’s”.

Donations will be accepted until 12 Noon. Cash and checks, made payable to St. Francis Wildlife, will be accepted as well as other items on the St. Francis Wish List, including: Animal Food, Animal Bedding & Cleaning Supplies. Please bring or ship all donations to the church for blessing during the service.
